Greetings,
Advent is upon us. We wait in anticipation because something new is happening. With this new beginning things will change. There will be transformation. In this time when we are called to reflect and imagine, we are often busy. The blacksmith is no exception …
The blacksmith is going to be busy.
It takes white hot fire and strength to hammer metal,
to transform weapons of war into tools.
“The blacksmith is going to be very busy.
It takes practiced skill to convert swords
into sharpened ploughshares,
that will turn the earth
and enable seed to be planted and grow.
And we are going to be busy too.
God is calling us to walk in the light, to consider our calling.
It takes hope and determination
to turn from the paths that lead to waste and destruction.
It takes insight and courage
to prune our lives from that which is harmful
and walk in the ways of justice and peace.
We wait for the day of God’s coming,
but there are some things that we do not need to wait for.
We can walk in the light right now.“
(Excerpts from Walking in the Light taken from ‘spill the beans’ 33, p16)
My hope is that each of us will find some space in this busy season to imagine in a way that enables us to walk in the light. My prayer for you is this …
Gentle God,
Let your grace take hold of us this Advent season.
Free us from distractions that steal away glimpses of your goodness.
As we wait with anticipation and expectation, may we be mindful of your light, hope, joy
and the wonder of your incarnate love. Amen.
Blessings – Rev Heather.
