Greetings …
This week is National Volunteer Week, the week that we acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation’s volunteers. Interestingly, the chosen theme for 2020 is ‘Changing
Communities. Changing Lives.’ When this theme was chosen I wonder whether the organisation had any idea how indicative their choice of theme was. We are currently living through the changes in our communities and we are so aware of how when a community
changes, lives are changed.
While there has been a lot of focus and thanks given to our frontline workers, and rightly so, it is probably more important than ever to also recognise and acknowledge our volunteers. Community volunteers are currently cooking meals, collecting shopping, making up care packs, phoning people who are isolated and generally supporting those who are in need.
Communities don’t function without the valuable contribution of volunteers, and our church community is no different. On any given week there are many who ensure that our church groups and activities run so smoothly. There are those who co-ordinate Community Faith Groups, participate as Elders on Church Council, work at the Community Market, remind us of our Social Justice responsibilities, enjoy time Bushwalking and participating in Day Fellowship, co-ordinate Rosters, and take care of our Property and Finance.
On a Sunday we are blessed to have Koonung Kids leaders who share their time with our children and young people. Our worship is blessed by those who provide music and choral input, read the Bible, share prayers, welcome others, operate the sound and audio visual desk, prepare communion, count the offering and provide morning tea and clean up afterwards. At the moment we have some extra volunteers helping organise and distribute the weekly
worship.
Our church community wouldn’t be the same without the contributions of all these volunteers, and by the weekly prayers of members and those who form part of our Prayer Group.
A big thank you to everyone!
Blessings – Heather
