Welcome to Koonung Heights Uniting Church

Greetings …

Psalm 98, the psalm for this Sunday, opens with the following words:

O sing to the Lord a new song,
for he has done marvellous things.

Throughout the psalm we are exhorted to praise God for the marvellous things that God has done.  We are encouraged to join our voice with that of the seas and the hills as creation sings praise.

So a question … if you were to think about your own life, I wonder what you would describe as being a marvellous thing that God has done for you?  Maybe it is something in your family, your work life, your friendship networks, or even our congregation or community.  Maybe you even have the sense of something marvellous that God is doing.

It is important that we all look for the blessings in our lives.  There are often more than we acknowledge but they are there, even though they are sometimes not as obvious as we think.

This Sunday is Mother’s Day and while I am fortunate to have been blessed with a daughter, and a mother and mother-in-law I have a good relationship with, it isn’t the same for everyone.  There are those women whose longed-for child never came, those who never got to know their mother, and those who have lost that special person.

Yet each one of us who has been cared for, nurtured or supported by a woman has been blessed.  You don’t need to look too hard around the community at Koonung Heights to see many faithful women who not only love God, but who have been nurturers of faith and been a blessing to us.  To know, or have known, just one of these is certainly a marvellous thing that God has done!

Blessings – Heather.
