Welcome to Koonung Heights Uniting Church

2021, 15th August

Greetings,

Lockdown 6.0 … did we ever think we would get to this number?  I’m not sure that I did.  I remember writing the first Something to make you smile back on 29 March 2020 and thinking to myself ‘I can do this for the next six weeks’.  It is easy once you start something to get into a routine and keep doing that same thing that we have become accustomed to, but I wonder whether it might be time for something new!  For us as individuals … for us as community!

In the midst of pondering this I received an inspiring email from Joan this week.  Joan was letting me know about a new thing that she had seen once before and had been encouraged by.  While it might not be new to her, it was new to me!  Let me share some of this email with you …

It occurred to me that for those wondering how to spend lockdown productively, inspiration could perhaps be borrowed from Rose Kentwell, following an initiative she took during one Lent.

The indomitable Rose vowed to write and send one letter each day to the PM, outlining an issue she cared about and what to do to fix the problem.  A different issue each day of Lent.

Just imagine if all the UCA people in lockdowns did that! I think it was, and is, a brilliant idea.

Thanks Joan for the email and Rose for being the initial inspiration.  This is an idea I really like.  Maybe it is the new thing that you’ve been looking for too?  Maybe there is something else … but when you find something that inspires, maybe it’s the new thing for you.

Blessings – Heather.
