Welcome to Koonung Heights Uniting Church

2022, 17th July

Greetings …
Things don’t always go the way you intended do they! No matter how careful you are with planning some things, disruptions come along that you couldn’t foresee and are powerless to do anything about. When I booked train tickets to Sydney I had no idea there was going to be a huge weather event which would mean we couldn’t travel on our intended day, and I could do nothing about the flooded tracks that delayed the trip even further. It was certainly frustrating, but plans were changed and we did get to our destination.
While reflecting on the fact that things hadn’t turned out as planned, a verse from Jeremiah came to mind …
For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.’
(Jeremiah 29:11)

When Jeremiah wrote these words the people were not just frustrated, they were hoping for an immediate relief to the suffering they were experiencing. Jeremiah’s words do not promise immediate relief for the people, but they are a reminder that the God who loves them has a plan for good things for them.
I think it’s the same for us now. While we go through times that are difficult, these things will pass. The future can seem uncertain, but our hope rests in the knowledge that God promises a future for us. It might be a future that we cannot clearly see, and that isn’t easy, but if our future is with God then we should not worry for the God who is with us now will also be with us in whatever is to come.
Blessings – Heather.
