Greetings …
On Wednesday night some of us gathered for an Ash Wednesday service. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, the season when the church remembers the life and ministry of Jesus and renews its commitment.
While the destination of Easter Day is a cause for celebration, in the season of Lent we journey with Jesus towards Jerusalem, and come face to face with the costly love of God, which shows itself in Jesus’ life and death. This is a journey which is hard and costly – a journey which reminds us of the cost of discipleship and reacquaints us with Jesus’ example of compassion and care despite what he was facing.
As we follow Jesus’ journey, we are blessed to know we do not travel alone. May the following prayer, written by Elizabeth Waldron Anstice, call us to give thanks and praise at all times.
Thankyou faithful God for your presence with us
in dry rough times,
in hard times,
in fearful times, and
in wonderful times
when we are overwhelmed and immersed in your love.
We will praise you.
We will tell you of our troubles.
We will look for your steadfast love.
We will share your hope with others.
In dry dusty deserts.
In wet watery waves.
In difficult and delightful times.
In woeful and wonderful days.
We will sing praise.
Amen.
Despite the difficulty, may you find many blessings during your Lenten journey.
Blessings – Heather.
