Welcome to Koonung Heights Uniting Church

2023, 8th October

Greetings …

As I sat down at my desk Monday morning and turned the calendar to October,  I was greeted with this verse from Isaiah 43:19 on my calendar … I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

These words from the prophet Isaiah are a message from God to the Israelites, and a reminder that God is faithful, as they hear again the promise of God to care for and provide for them.  Previously God rescued the Israelites from Egypt but now God has something new in store for them  But these words are also a reminder for us of God’s continued faithfulness and provision.

We read Isaiah’s words as God beginning to reveal the salvation that comes by Jesus Christ.  This ‘new thing’ that was foretold is what we celebrate at Christmas, but God is not done yet.  God is always doing a new thing.

The all-loving, all-encompassing, all-creating God doesn’t need us to give birth to new things, but we are issued the invitation to participate as co-creators in God’s plans.  All we need to do is to keep our eyes and hearts open, and say ‘yes’.

So what is the new thing that God is doing?  Do we perceive it?

What is the new thing God is inviting us to be part of … in our own lives, in our community, in our church.

May we be watchful and never too busy to say ‘yes’.

Blessings – Heather (she/her).
