Welcome to Koonung Heights Uniting Church

2024, 22nd September

Greetings …

Through the Season of Creation we have been hearing the thoughts of Christian faith leaders throughout the world.  As we move into the fourth week of this season, let us hear the thoughts of some more …

‘Despite all attempts to deny, conceal, gloss over or relativize the issue, the signs of climate change are here and increatingly evident.  No one can ignote the fact that in recent years we have witnessed extreme weather phenomena, frequent periods of unusual heat, drought and other cries of protest on the part of the earth that are only a few palpable expressions of a silent disease that affects everyone.  I ask everyone to accompany this pilgrimate of reconciliation with that world that is our home and to help make it more beautiful.”

(His Holiness Pope Francis, Bishop of Rome, Roman Catholic Church)

‘The Lutheran World Federation affrims that as churches in ongoing reformation, we are called to work for peace in the world: between people, countries, and with the whole of creation.  The relentless rise in global temperatures has meant loss of biodiversity, lives, livelihoods, and whole communities.  Creation cries out in suffering.  We acknowledge the urgent call to action, and we acknowledge that we can only respond to it on the basis of faith.’

(Rev Dr Ann Burghardt, Lutheran World Fedration General Secretary)

In these words, may we hear the invitation to continue to pray, celebrate and advocate in hope and action for Creation.

Blessings – Rev  Heather Hon (she/her).
