Greetings …
This coming Sunday, 6 October, is our last in the Season of Creation. During the six Sundays of this season, we have engaged with the beauty of creation, celebrated God as Creator, and acknowledged that our well-being is interwoven with the well-being of the Earth. We have been called ‘to hope and act with Creation’, as we have recalled that the hope of our resurrection faith inspires us to concrete acts of prayer, conversation and solidarity. We have hung and banner and shared small actions that we can take each day that all make a difference.
Monday, 7 October, is World Habitat Day, a day that addresses the challenges and opportunities of rapid urbanization. This year’s focus is on engaging the new generation in planning their urban present and future in a way that is inclusive and sustainable. Particular challenges in the areas of poverty, inequality and global warming are front of mind.
Rudelmar Bueno de Faria (General Secretary, ACT Alliance) explains that ‘We must shift away from fossil fuels and move towards renewable energy in a fair and organised way. Our faith calls us to support vulnerable communities who are most affected by the climit crisis.’
There is much at stake, and sometimes we wonder what we can do. At times it seems that prayer is not enough, and maybe it isn’t, but our prayers are not nothing, they are valuable and they matter. I urge you to continue to pray for Creation, and for our young people who are called to take on this challenge as they inherit the legacy that we are leaving.
Blessings – Rev Heather Hon (she/her).
