Greetings …
This coming Sunday is Transfiguration of Jesus Sunday – the day when Jesus’ personal appearance was changed into a glorified form which showed something more than the disciples had seen before. This story is amazing, but I wonder if the most amazing thing is not Jesus’ transformation, but the way this encounter transformed the disciples?
Transfigured
Moutains, clouds and light,
summer, burnt land, flooded land,
surf, sand – and sunburn.
Dazzling light and heat,
deep blue hemisphere above,
cosmic dimensions.
In busy cities,
plains of spinifex, mulga,
and farm sin between.
Not smoke and mirrors
of would-be modern ‘saviours’
but ‘presence of God’.
What then would it be
to see God in our neighbour?
A world transfigured.
