Greetings,
Over the last week I found it wonderful to be back in the classroom, engaging with other critical thinkers, as we spent time looking at the books of Esther, Ruth, Song of Songs, Susannah and Judith. These books are maybe not as well-known as others but in many ways are exceptional. Each have women protagonists who come to life within a strong patriarchal culture, displaying characteristics of courage, leadership, risk-taking, loyalty, innocence and piety.
Whether these books are historical, or myth, they still function powerfully today. Written in times of conflict and threat, these texts are part of resistance literature, calling for protest and reminding people of the agency they have to bring about change.
I hope to share more of my learnings with you down the track. In the meantime, I encourage you to have a read of these engaging texts.
Blessings – Heather Hon (she/her)
