Greetings to the Koonung Heights Community,

Over Advent, when we support Christmas Bowl, Peta Lowe is going to share some stories about how this program assists people around the world.  These stories come from the Christmas Bowl resource.

‘This week we will learn something about the work of Act for Peace in Ethiopia.  This work brings hope in exile, celebrating Christ’s presence among displaced families in Ethiopia, supported through emergencies and rebuilding lives.

After fleeing Eritrea, Arsema struggled to survive as a refugee in Ethiopia.  Through the Christmas Bowl and its partner, the Ethiopian Orthodox Church-Development and Interchurch Commission, she joined the Tesfa program, receiving support and training, so she can build a better life for her daughter.

Life as an urban refugee can be overwhelming, with few opportunities to earn an income.  Through the Tesfa program, refugees like Arsema receive mentoring, financial support, and vocational training to create sustainable livelihoods.  Arsema is now studying make-up artistry and preparing to provide for her daughter with new skills and hope for the future.’
