Greetings …
As I write I am conscious of the increasing concerns about COVID-19 which is impacting
more and more people. Please be assured that the Uniting Church Synod is keeping
congregations updated with current expectations. Presently advice is that we can adopt a
‘business as usual’ approach, with a couple of reminders. If you are feeling unwell it is
best that you do not attend worship. We should all be vigilant with hand sanitisation. Let
us continue to care for others in our community by continuing to take these small steps.
4th Wednesday of Lent – 18 March – Psalm 51:10b
“Renew a steadfast spirit within me”
The psalmist asks that God might renew a steadfast spirit within him. The renewal that
God can bring about is more than just a simple extension of contractual arrangements.
The renewal that God can work in our lives is one of complete restoration. God in his
mercy, compassion and unfailing love moves in our hearts to renew us and strengthen us
from the inside out. When our spirits are steadfast we are enabled to stand firm through
life’s changes and challenges.
4th Sunday of Lent – 22 March – Psalm 51:12
“Restore to me the joy of your salvation”
It can be hard to be joyful and when we experience joy it is often fleeting. It seems to slip
out of our grasp and remain hidden. We all know that when
something valuable is lost we don’t give up searching until we find
it again, retracing our steps. This verse reminds us that if we seem
to have lost our joy, we need to go back to God, the source of all
joy. Surely even in the longest, darkest night there may be joy,
because we know that after night comes another day and the sun rises.
Blessings – Rev Heather.
