Welcome to Koonung Heights Uniting Church

Greetings …
It was wonderful to see and hear so many people over Zoom coffee last Sunday morning. It was a time where those who were present got to say hello, hear how others were doing, share
memories, meet pets and even sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to one of the participants. For some it
might have been their first time trying a Zoom catch-up, but it went really well.
For those who haven’t tried it yet, Zoom is a platform that allows you to join in group
conversations via your phone or computer. It’s one of the new things I have been
learning over the past few weeks and is pretty easy to get used to. In the last month I
have used Zoom for a Church Council meeting, a Presbytery Standing Committee
meeting, the weekly prayer group, Minister’s chats, Sunday morning coffee and even
some conversations with friends. It is one of those ‘new’ things I’m learning about.
I don’t think I’m alone in this. In having to adapt to a new way of life, with a slower
pace, we are being encouraged to embrace new things and to learn a new appreciation
for things that we can easily overlook as we rush about. We have some lovely red
gladioli plants in our front garden. This is not the first year they have flowered, but this
is the year that I am noticing them as if for the first time. Rather than rushing out the
front door away from where they are, the place I am sitting and working in now enables
me to watch the buds slowly open. Each day I have been enjoying the beauty of a small
part of creation.
I am reminded of some words penned by Thomas Chisholm:
Great is your faithfulness.
Great is your faithfulness,
morning by morning new mercies we see;
all we have needed your hand has provided:
great is your faithfulness, Lord God, to me.

As we learn new things, or rediscover something we have overlooked, let us always to be open to see the faithfulness of God … in both the big and the small things.
Blessings – Heather ☺
