Welcome to Koonung Heights Uniting Church

2020, 26th July

Greetings …
One of the blessings of this Covid-19 time has been the sharing that happens on Zoom
coffee after church on Sunday mornings. While there isn’t the time to have long
conversations with one or two people, it has been a wonderful time to hear the special
encounters or joys that have been happening for everyone. Unexpected offers or help,
meeting people while walking and encounters with wildlife have all brought special
pleasure at a time when we all need that little bit of connectedness.
This week I had an unexpected joy when I was doing some family research. I discovered that someone also researching into one branch of the family tree had shared a photo which I had never seen before. The photo is of three ladies and two small children. It seems that they may have been at a church outing as all the ladies had their hats and gloves on (though I have been reminded that this is just the fashion of the day).
The small boy who is standing in the middle of the photo, and not looking at all impressed with the fact that he has to be there, turns 82 on Sunday. His name is John, he is my dad and he can still get that look on his face!
It will be sad to not be able to celebrate face to face with Dad on Sunday, but discovering this photo has meant that we have been able to connect in a whole different way as we have shared stories of his family, and those who haven’t been part of conversation for a while seem to have life again. In that there is both joy and connection, not only for dad and , but like a pebble dropped in a pond, the ripples of that are being spread far and wide.
My prayer for you all is that however stressful things are at present you might be able to find small moments of joy and connectedness each and every day.
Blessings – Heather.
