Greetings …
The bible tells us how Jesus met with people whether they were in large groups (the 5000+ that were fed), small groups (the friends on the road to Emmaus) or alone (Mary in the garden). The size of the group wasn’t what mattered. The important thing was that Jesus came.
No matter our situation, Jesus continues to come to us, gathering us into one community. We are gathered together, even when we are separated physically. As we pray and worship God – whether with printed resources dropped at the door, worship online or gathering in small groups – we are one huge gathered family in Christ.
As we care for each other – whether by phone, email, written letter or Zoom – we are showing our love for each other, holding and upholding each other in Christ’s love.
Denise Liersch (Moderator) penned these words in her recent letter, and they reflect much of what the church is doing, and what we have been doing at Koonung Heights.
Our current situation is, in some ways, more hopeful with lower case numbers and some restrictions being relaxed, but it is also more difficult for those of us that aren’t quite there yet. I have sensed this in many of my conversations.
Yet I also received an email this week with the question “Do we regard the Covid-19 restrictions as a form of quarantine?” Accompanying this question was a picture that reframed the word ‘quarantine’ in light of what it might mean for our relationship with God. The list is as follows:-
quiet your soul,
unite as one with God,
act with Godly love,
read your Bible,
activate your faith,
nourish your soul,
talk with God,
intercede for others,
nestle in the presence of God,
elevate in worship.
I think that even though times are difficult, many of us have been doing these things … because it is when we are in a good place that we are able to care well for others.
This week, why not make one of these letters your focus quarantine.
Blessings – Heather.
