Welcome to Koonung Heights Uniting Church

2020, 20th September

Greetings …
What a beautiful morning it was today. The sky was clear … the sunrise was amazing with colours emerging across the sky … a gentle breeze moved through the trees … a peaceful silence, except for the birds who sang their greetings to one another and to the new day.
As someone who is more of a night-owl than an early riser I don’t always see the sunrise, but what a wonderful way to start the day. As I was enjoying the moment a Bible passage from Lamentations came into my mind …
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)
Some days, more than others, we need to be reminded of this promise. At times the circumstances surrounding us make us feel weary and life can be that little bit harder.
The book of Lamentations expresses the suffering and despair of Jerusalem and her people following the destruction of the city by the Babylonians. This powerful promise of God is a reminder that God’s love and mercy are a constant, even when we are in a difficult space, like rays of light that break through the darkness of night.
In the same way that the sun rises every morning, we can be confident that God’s steadfast love and mercies never end. They are not based on how good we are, or what we have done, but on God’s character. His compassion towards us is fresh every morning, a gift to us each day.
Today and always, may you feel God’s love shining on you like the rays of morning sunlight each new day.
Blessings – Heather.
