Welcome to Koonung Heights Uniting Church

2020, 11th October

Greetings …

Some of us have been participating in the Climate for Change study over the last couple of weeks.  The opening readings for this week both really struck me.

“I have done what is mine; may Christ teach you yours.”
(Francis of Assisi – as quoted in Bonaventure’s Major Legend 14:3)

“Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is the moment for you to wake from sleep.” (Romans 13:11)

Within these words (written a long time ago and about 1000 years apart) there is both a call and a challenge.  The call is to be attentive and hear what our task is and the challenge is then to do it.  Yet none of this can happen if we are not attuned to the time and space that we are in, for we are called to be and act, and can only be and act, in this time and this space.

So then, the question might be, where do we find ourselves?  We can answer this question in many ways … we are in 2020, we are in Melbourne, we are in lockdown, we are in difficult economic times.  Yet we can also say … we are in a time of increased care of our neighbour, we are in a time of discovery, we in a time of reimagining, we are in a time of hope and we can make a difference.

My prayer for each of us is that we will listen and hear what Christ is teaching us in this time and space, so that we might find what is ours to do, and do it.

Through all of this, let us remember that we are blessed, and continue to bless one another.

Blessings – Heather.
