Welcome to Koonung Heights Uniting Church

Greetings,

I wonder what you do when you have trouble falling asleep at night or when you wake up early in the morning and can’t go back to sleep easily? Some people say that counting sheep will make you fall asleep, while others advise that meditation while taking deep breaths will help. Both seem to make sense.

I suffered from severe insomnia a few months ago. I think the insomnia was caused by a lot of stress from my English studies. So Whenever I couldn’t sleep well, I memorized and meditated Psalm 23. The words that Jesus, my shepherd, leads me to green pastures and quiet waters so that I can rest comfortably made me so peaceful.

Honestly, it was hard for me to study theology in English surrounded by English speaking people. It felt like I was walking in the darkest valley alone.

However, I am not alone. It says that even though I walk through the darkest valley, Jesus would always accompany me, protect me, and comfort me with His rod and staff. As I imagined this scene, I felt peace in my mind, and before I knew it, I fell asleep.

I believe that each of us will pass through the valley of difficulties and the shadow of death in life. No one can escape this journey of life. But we Christians have very good news. It is the fact that Jesus, who died on the cross for us and rose again, becomes our shepherd.

He walks with us in every moment. He will lead us to springs of life-giving water. God will wipe away our tears and sorrows. He gives us love, hope and peace.

How happy and grateful we are. We hope that our loved ones and neighbours will also be able to enjoy this good news as well.

Blessings – Jane.
