Greetings …
We are being given a gift! That’s how Harriet opened the devotions that she shared with Church Council on Wednesday night. What she shared was powerful and I share some of it here with you.
We are being given a gift! In a recent letter to the Age, Jim and Tui wrote,
“When we read the Uluru Statement from the Heart, we realise that it was not what we non-indigenous people could do for the first nations People, but what they could do for us, with their deep spiritual connection with their land.”
Over the last few days perhaps you have listened and watched the Prime Minister at Garma. Perhaps you watched Q&A, where people asked questions in language – their own language – and then heard the considered answers from a panel of five indigenous people. Perhaps you’ve been listening to the late Archie Roach.
Some weeks ago Harriet reflected on the way Jesus had received a precious gift – he had honoured the giver and the gift.
We are being called to do the same as we are given the opportunity to enter more fully into indigenous understandings, into the heart of the nations expressed in the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
In ‘One Song’, written by Archie Roach, he reminds us that “we are born of just one song”. I wonder how this might intersect with your own faith or your own spiritual life?
Blessings to all (and thanks to Harriet) – Heather.
