Greetings …
When I open my calendar and look at this coming Sunday I can see that there are many entries. It is the first Sunday of Spring and the first Sunday in the liturgical Season of Creation that we like to celebrate in the Uniting Church. It is also Safe Church Sunday – the day when we remember the importance of making our spaces safe for everyone who uses our buildings and participates in any of our activities. Of course, in Australia, the first Sunday in September is also celebrated as Father’s Day.
For many people Father’s Day is special. It is a day when we connect with those men who have been role models or touched our lives in some way. Of course it is not like this for everyone. There can be many reasons why – the grief some have at never becoming a Father or of much loved Fathers who are no longer with us, or the difficult relationships some have with their own Father. It is important to acknowledge these experiences and feelings if they are real for you. We never really know someone’s circumstance so it is important in making our spaces safe, that we acknowledge this reality.
Last week I shared a little about Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) and some of the work they do. Thanks to those who supported their work by purchasing a ‘Fuel for Father’s Day’ card or gave a donation. This is certainly one of those gifts that keeps on giving and the contribution of this community will make a difference to the important work of MAF.
If you’d still like to support, I will be selling cards again on Sunday. Alternatively you can always visit the MAF website to purchase a card or donate – https://gifts.maf.org.au/pages/fathersday/.
Blessings – Heather.
