Welcome to Koonung Heights Uniting Church

2023, 13th August

Greetings …

As I was without a computer for a couple of days this week, I decided to go through some boxes that I’d inherited from my mother when she and dad moved.  I remember her saying “I’ve put some things together that you might find useful” and I dutifully took them and set them aside for a later date.

One of the things I found in the box was an old diary from 1976.  My dad had obviously used it at school with staff meetings and other important things recorded.  Mum has then repurposed it as a scrapbook of items included in the weekly church news.  While reading I came across the following ‘Thought for the Week’ snippet which I thought I’d share with you (along with my apologies that I can’t acknowledge the author).

          Think love, not hate.
          Think success, not failure.
          Think health, not disease.
          Think good, not evil.
          Think prosperity, not poverty.
          Think safety, not danger.
          Think life, not death.
          Think friendship, not hostility.
          Think joy, not sorrow.
          This hope, not despair.
          Think tranquillity, not tension.
          Look forward, not backward.

There’s something uplifting about thinking of all the good stuff, but sometimes life throws the not-so-good stuff our way too, no matter how much positive thinking we do.  In looking at this list, I am mindful of all that I am blessed with, and reminded to bring before God all those in the world who are not so fortunate as I.

No matter how our ‘stuff’ is, may we never forget that God’s love always covers us.

Blessings – Heather.
