Greetings …
We Belong to the Day, taken from 1 Thessalonians 5:8, is the theme for the 2023 Meeting of the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania which will take place at Box Hill town Hall from 18 to 21 November this year.
Synod members are made up of lay and ordained people from the Unting Church with adults of all ages, cultural backgrounds, genders, abilities and orientations encouraged to attend. Synod meetings occur about every 18 months and are opportunities for members to discern the big-picture matters which make us the Uniting Church. Chaired by the Moderator, it is a chance to share stories, gain new perspectives, and discover new ways of supporting one another in faithful witness.
Synod meetings are varied and include times of receiving and questioning reports, elections, worship, bible study and theological reflections and making decisions which affect the Uniting Church. The meeting is always opened with a worship service and a tributes service is also held which is a time to acknowledge incoming ministers, those who have reached particular years of service and those who who died since the last Synod meeting.
Synod meetings can also be faced with difficult, challenging and sometimes momentous decisions. Such decisions are best made when we gather together to hear the varied voices that make up the Synod as we discern together God’s direction for our Church.
I know that all those attending Synod would appreciate your prayers for this meeting and
the decisions made as we strive to be God’s church into the future.
Blessings – Heather (she/her).
