Welcome to Koonung Heights Uniting Church

2024, 11th February

Greetings,

This coming Sunday, February 11, is Transfiguration Sunday, the day in the liturgical calendar when we hear again the story of Jesus’ transfiguration.  This is a significant text because it we see more of God’s revelation in Jesus and watch him begin his journey towards Jerusalem.  Of course we know that this journey to Jerusalem culminates in Jesus’ death and resurrection, and our lives bear witness to this.

February 11 is also the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which is also significant.

On the United Nations website we read that … “Tackling some of the greatest challenges of the Agenda for Sustainable Development – from improving health to combating climate change – will rely on harnessing all talent.  This means getting more women working in these fields.  Diversity in research expands the pool of talented researchers, bringing in fresh perspectives, talent and creativity.  This Day is a reminder that women and girls play a critical role in science and technology communities and that their participation should be strengthened.  Many women scientists are at the forefront of climate action and their research has improved outcomes exponentially.’

The paths we walk impact others, just like their choices can impact us.  May we pay attention to what God is calling us to do as it is revealed to us.

Blessings – Heather (she/her).
