Welcome to Koonung Heights Uniting Church

2024, 1st September

Greetings …

The Season of Creaton is the annual Christian celebration to pray and respond together to the cry of Creation: the ecumenical family around the world unites to listen and care for our common home.  Over the next few weeks I am going to share the thoughts of some of the world’s Christian leaders as together they invite us into sharing this season …

‘Climate change and disasters are already upon us.  The planet is in trouble and ‘creation is groaning’ as the Apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 8.  In the midst of this, we are called to be responsible stewards and citizens as we care for and sustain the earth which belongs to the Lord.  This is hope in action as we pray and yearn for a better and safer world for all people and creation.  We each need to do our part for creation care.’

(Rev Prof Dr Jerry Pillay, General Secretary, World Council of Churches)

‘The Echumenical Patriarchate first launched a day of prayer for creation in 1989.  Since then, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has passionately and patiently adocated for the protection of creation, echoing creation’s “eager longing” and humanity’s “patient hope” (Romans 8:19,25).  Listening and responding to the cry of creation is not longer a luxury, a trend, or an agenda.  It is essential to the sustainability of our planet and the prosperity of its inhabitants.”

(Rev Dr John Chryssavgis, Executive Director, Huffington Ecumenical Institute at Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology)

May we take seriously this invitation.

Blessings – Rev  Heather Hon (she/her).
