Greetings …
In our worship service last week, Peta shared about the valuable work of MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship), and the opportunity to support them through the Fuel for Father’s Day campaign. Since it’s inception 12 years ago, this campaign has funded the fuel needed for 140 minutes of flight time every single day for a total of 11 years, supporting MAF as they work to bring help, hope and healing to those in isolated areas around the world.
Below are a few examples of what MAF is currently doing overseas and within our own country.
A 15-minute flight in Timor-Leste replaces a 4-hour boat journey, saving lives like Filomena’s, who faced severe childbirth complications. Thanks to a recent MAF medevac, both she and her baby survived.
A 140-minute flight in Kenya transports eye surgeons from the Fred Hollows Association, enabling them to treat over one thousand patients, as well as perform hundreds of sight-restoring surgeries each trip, saving a 17 hour journey by car.
Much closer to home, in Australia, a 60-minute flight in Arnhem Land transports students and teachers in partnership with local schools, saving hours of travel time and continuing to support education for Indigenous students.
In our prayers this week, let us remember the valuable work of MAF and their staff. Let us remember, too, all those they touch as they provide as they bring in the essentials of life as well as medical care, emergency food, and Christian hope.
Blessings – Rev Heather Hon (she/her).
