Welcome to Koonung Heights Uniting Church

2022, 19th June

Greetings …

This coming week the Uniting Church will celebrate its 45th birthday.  This is significant and the time which defines the onset of middle age.  Maybe it should be of no surprise then that the Uniting Church has embarked on what is being called the Act 2 project.

As the Uniting Church, we have a lot to be thankful for.  Since our inception on 22 June 1977, and despite the many diverse expressions of who we are as church, clear markers of our identity include the centrality of Christ, our connected to the world (particularly our local communities), the diversity of our people and our orientation to justice.  At our best we have participated in the reconciling work of Christ and been able to harness our inclusivity and diversity, to be a risk taking, flexible and adaptable Church, open to renewal in our life.  These are all things to be celebrated.

Just like middle age is a time when individuals reassess life, Act 2 is an invitation to us to consider the future of the Uniting Church as a people of God on the way.  As we look to the future, what is God saying to us as about how we order our life as a Church so we can be committed to transforming lives and communities in God’s love?  How might we be the Church that God calls us to be?

May God continue to bless us as we discern the way into the future.

Blessings – Heather.
